Sammakka Saralamma Jatara (31st Jan – 3rd Feb 2018) is said to be one of the largest gathering of Asia with Tribals and non-adivasi population. It will be held alternate yearly at the place called MEDARAM in Tadvai mandal in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district with about 1.2 crore devotees of india. Which has continually happening from the 13th century.
Devotees will visit from the surrounding states like Telangana, Andhrapradesh, Maharastra, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Odissa for the 4days of Festival.
- On the Day1 Saralamma (daughter of Sammakka and Padigidda Raju) will come to the platform at temple place from the forest by Koya tribe senior doras.
- On Day2 Sammakka will come to the another platform at temple place
- On Day3 Divoties will offer all the puja to twin Goddess Sammakka and Saralamma
- On Day4 Twin goddess will return to the forest by Koya doras.
Piligrims will first take holy bath in Jampanna Vagu which is a tributary River of Godavari. Jampanna is the son, tribal warrior of the goddess Sammakka, was died in the war with Kakatiya Army in the stream of river. The Jampanna Vagu is seems to be red in color and devotees believe as the blood of Jampanna, though scientifically the red color of the water is due to the red soil. Devotess will believe theat taking a holy dip in the red water of this river remembers the sacrifice of the god to save the with courage in to soul.
Devotees will offer Jiggery equal to the weight, also called as gold/bangaram in this occasion.
Many devotees will come with families with big gatherings and stay in the forest for about 2-4 days and cook their own food and spend the holy good time.
As this is a alternate year festival would be conducted in forest, The State govt will arrange all the required arrangements to pilgrim visit the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara like transport, roads, water, toilets, police, lighting and the other required arrangements.
2018 – Jatara would be more special because Central govt is planning to give a special status as National festival of this year. Mr.Jual Oram, Union Ministy of tribal welfare will be expected to visit the Jatara this 31st January and would announce the same.
Later UNESCO would also announce to TAG, Sammakka Saralamma Jatara as “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”. Earlier Kumb Mela has received this tag with a big gathering of about 10 crore.
